An international order of jurists
Jurists of every jurisdiction, held to one standard.
The International Order of Jurists is an independent fellowship of students of law, practising and retired jurists, and legal organisations. Its members observe a common Code of Conduct, and each member’s standing can be checked by anyone who holds the member’s card.
Membership is free of charge. Applications are reviewed individually.

Justice and integrity, for the common good
The Order
What the Order does
Law is practised in many traditions and languages. The Order asks one thing of its members wherever they work: integrity that others can rely on and check.
I
A common code
Members observe one Code of Conduct: independence and honesty, loyalty to clients, confidentiality, clarity about fees and the avoidance of conflicts of interest.
II
Verifiable standing
Every member holds a card with a private QR code. It opens the member’s record, kept by the Order: status, field of law, standing and the date it was last confirmed.
III
Accountability
Anyone with first-hand experience of a member may commend the member or raise a concern. Concerns are reviewed fairly, the member is heard, and upheld outcomes are recorded.
Membership
Four categories of membership
From the first year of law school to a long career’s end, and for the organisations in which jurists work.
Jurist
Student
For those studying law in any form, at a university or a school of law.
Jurist
Practising
For jurists who advise, represent, adjudicate, draft, research or teach law.
Jurist
Retired
For jurists who have retired from practice and remain committed to its values.
Organisation
Corporate
For law firms, legal departments, universities and other organisations of jurists.
Verification
A card you can check in seconds
Clients, courts, employers and colleagues can confirm a member’s standing without an account and without searching a public list.
Scan
The QR code on the member’s card opens the member’s record on this website. Records are not listed or searchable, so a record can only be reached from the card.
Check
The record shows the member’s status, category and field of law, the member’s standing in the Order, and when the record was last confirmed.
Rely, within limits
A record confirms membership of the Order. It is not a licence to practise law; where that matters, check with the competent authority as well.
No card at hand? Use the member number and family name.
Plainly stated
What membership is, and what it is not
Trust begins with saying clearly what a title means.
Membership is
- A personal commitment to the Order’s Code of Conduct
- A record of who you are and of your legal background, checked by the Order
- A standing that others can verify, and that commendations can raise
- Fellowship with jurists in other countries and legal traditions
Membership is not
- A licence or right to practise law anywhere
- Admission to a bar, law society, court or public register
- An accreditation by a public authority or regulator
- A guarantee of the outcome of any member’s work
Standing
Standing is earned, and can be lost
When the Order accepts a commendation from someone who worked with a member, the member’s standing rises. An upheld concern returns it to the beginning.
